Police are appealing for information after a man attempted to rape a woman in Sale.
Police were called after a woman in her 20s was hit on the head and dragged into a nearby alleyway between Linley Road and Manor Road shortly before one o’clock.
A man threatened her with a knife and then forced her onto the floor, where he ripped her clothing and attempted to rape her.
She managed to escape from him and ran to safety.
The man is described as white, around 5ft 10ins tall with facial stubble, wearing a dark chequered shirt and dark blue jeans.
Police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
Detective Sergeant Dave Jones of GMP’s Trafford borough, said: “I can’t imagine how distressing this must have been for the woman who was subject to this horrifying assault.
“She is now being looked after by specially trained officers, who are providing support at this difficult time.
“It’s key that we find the person responsible for this attack; if you were in the area and saw anyone acting suspiciously, or have information that could help our enquiries, get in touch.”
