Police are investigating a horrific attack on a man who was innocently walking down a street in Sale just before 9 am on Saturday morning.
The 59-year old man was making his way home along Urban Road when he was kicked to the floor and his head stamped on.
Police were called by the ambulance service to reports that a man had been assaulted at around 8.45 am.
Detective Chief Inspector Jon Kelly, of GMP’s Trafford district, said: “An innocent man was simply walking home when he was brutally attacked by two men and left requiring hospital care.
“Thankfully the victim is in a stable condition but he has obviously been left incredibly shaken by his ordeal and we’re doing all we can to trace those responsible but we need the public’s help.
“We are treating this as an isolated incident but would encourage people to carefully consider the descriptions we have provided and call us if you think you’ve seen these men. You will see an increased police presence in the area over the coming days so please approach these officers with any questions or concerns you may have.
“I would urge anyone who thinks that might have witnessed this assault or anyone with any information that could assist our enquiries to get in touch.”
One of the offenders has been described as white, of slim build and average height with short dark hair. He appeared to be in his late teens or early twenties and was wearing a black puffer jacket with dark jeans.
The other attacker has been described as mixed race, of slim build with an afro hairstyle. He was wearing a long-sleeved grey top and also appeared to be in his early twenties.
Police say they have now arrested a man in connection with the assault. Officers are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information, images or footage to get in contact.
